Deleting your account.
Deletion is something you do yourself, in the app, in four taps. You do not need to ask us, and we cannot do it on your behalf.
Step by step
Where to find it
- Open Novatis and tap Profile in the bottom bar.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen, past Legal.
- Tap Delete account, below Sign out and Download your data.
- Confirm when the app asks. That confirmation is the point of no return.
Signing out is not deleting. Sign out ends the session on that device and leaves your account intact; you can sign back in at any time.
Before you delete
Take your data with you
Download your data sits directly above Delete account on the same screen. It gives you a copy of what we hold about your account.
Export it first if you want it. Once the account is gone we cannot produce an export, because the record it would have been built from no longer exists.
Your messages, photos, files and calls are end-to-end encrypted, so they are not ours to export or to restore. They live on your devices and on those of the people you talk to.
What happens
What deletion removes
Confirming deletion removes the account record we hold for you:
- Your email address, display name and @handle.
- Your password hash, your devices and sessions, and any two-factor data.
- Your identity-verification status, and the one-way hash of your phone number if you verified one.
- Your saved contacts, favourites, and anyone you had blocked.
Your @handle is released, so you will not be able to reclaim it if someone else takes it. Signing up again later creates a new account, not the old one restored.
The one exception
What remains afterwards
Entries in our security log are append-only and cannot be edited or removed, because their purpose is to be tamper-evident. After you delete your account those entries remain, but they reference an anonymised account record rather than your personal details.
This is the only thing that outlives deletion, and it is stated the same way in our Privacy Policy.
